Van Driver Toolkit Launched
A van driver toolkit has been launched by Driving for Better Business, a programme backed by National Highways which aims to help employers in both private and public sectors to reduce work-related road risk, control associated costs and improve compliance with current legislation and guidance.
The relevance of the initiative is brought into focus by a recent statistic released by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) which revealed 8 in 10 vehicles checked during random stops were overloaded and 54% of vans stopped contained serious mechanical defects.
Working with the National Highways Commercial Vehicle Incident Prevention Team, a series of driver information online modules have been produced to assist van drivers and fleet operators in dispelling uncertainty and myth. Employers can share the whole toolkit with drivers, or individual modules whenever to check understanding of best practice, or reinforce driving for work policies.
