Be wary of companies impersonating our Association

26 May 2021 | BALI Member News

It has been brought to our attention that an unsolicited phishing email, impersonating our Association or claiming to be from a company with access to email lists of its member base, is being sent to members. This started early this year, with some members receiving multiple copies or variations of the original since then.

If you receive this email, or similar, please ignore and delete it immediately. We have contacted both the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the National Cyber Security Centre and reported the phishing email. The ICO has advised that members use this form to make a complaint. The NCSC have asked for any emails of the kind below to be forwarded directly to report@phishing.gov.uk. With enough members, and between both organisations, it will help build a picture of what is happening so they can investigate further. They make no promises that they will be able to trace who, or what, is responsible, but if we do work together hopefully the spam emails will cease in time.

Our Association takes its privacy policy very seriously and will never share or provide access to our member's data. There is no evidence of a data breach or any unauthorised attempts to access member's data, which remains safe and secure in our customer database, utilising complex firewalls. The most likely scenario is a web bot sending automated emails to email addresses advertised in our member's directory on the website.

Thank you for your time and if you have any concerns please do get in touch.
