Tree Council launches grants for community planting projects

21 May 2026 | Technical News

The Tree Council – a charity which coordinates tree planting and research work across the UK – is inviting applications for three new grant schemes, each aimed at community planting projects.

Eligibility criteria vary from one scheme to another but members looking to make a difference locally may have to team up with public bodies, residents groups, or charities to apply.

Grants are being offered for projects of all sizes which support the establishment of trees, orchards, and hedgerows on streets, in parks, and in community and educational settings.

The three schemes are:

  • Branching Out Fund – offering small grants of between £250 to £2,500 for projects across the UK, with an applications deadline of 19 July.
  • Network Rail Community Tree Planting Fund – in partnership with Network Rail, offering larger grants of between £2,500 and £10,000 for projects in England, Scotland, and Wales, with an application deadline of 19 July.
  • SP Energy Networks Community Tree Planting Fund – in partnership with SP Energy Networks, offering grants of between £2,500 and £10,000 for projects in Scotland only, with an application deadline of 19 July.
