Poppy railings installed by Alpha Rail for Remembrance Day

05 Nov 2018 | BALI Member News

On November 11th we stand together to remember those who sacrificed themselves for our freedom, honouring the fallen with a two-minute silence and visiting War Memorials to pay our respects. It is a time to reflect and raise awareness among generations, reminding us of how fortunate we are to live peaceful lives not affected by war.

For Alpha Rail, a Nottinghamshire based manufacturer of metal railings and a BALI Registered Affiliate member, the desire to commemorate the sacrifices made by our war hero’s has unwittingly gained them a reputation as a niche manufacturer of poppy style railings for war memorials.

The company, which is based in Huthwaite, was recently contacted by Langford Parish Council in Bedfordshire to help with the refurbishment of their village war memorial.

Remembrance Day 2018 will be slightly more special, however, as it marks the 100-year anniversary since the end of WW1. Langford Parish Council saw this as the perfect opportunity to start their project and breathe new life into their War Memorial just in time for Remembrance Day.

Alpha Rail supplied and installed black decorative railings and a matching single leaf gate to enable access to lay wreathes on the steps of the memorial. The finishing touch and overall visual effect was completed by adding plasma cut decorative poppies which were painted red and welded to alternative vertical bars.

Commenting, Michelle Albone from Langford Parish Council said, “Many thanks to all those who helped us get this together in time for Remembrance Day 2018. They look amazing and we have had so many comments on how wonderful they look.”
