Over 70 members confirmed for BALI's National AGM 2019

28 Aug 2019 | BALI News

The BALI National AGM was to be held at Landscape House but due to a record increase in the number of attendees who have confirmed a place over the last few weeks the venue has been changed to Seminar Rooms 1-4 Warwick Complex, an adjacent building to BALI on Stoneleigh Park.

The National AGM provides members who are eligible to vote with a chance to make a decision on motions put forward by the association and its Board of Directors. Calling Notices have now been issued to all eligible members of BALI along with the Proxy Form and Attendance Form. Members will also be voting on several new candidates sitting on BALI's Board of Directors and an increase in membership fees.

The formal AGM will begin promptly at 10.30am followed by a short presentation by Wayne Grills (Chief Executive) focusing on the past 12 months of activity at BALI, as well as seeking the opinions of members to ensure the association continues to meet members’ expectations.

Between 11.45am and 12.45pm there will be three short presentations from three guest speakers; Stuart Foster, Chief Executive of RECOUP Recycling, Shaun Herdsman, Division Manager of Modiform, and Jason Reeves Head of Policy and Communications at the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. Presentations will focus on sustainability and the environment as well as recycling black plastics and an introduction to Biodiversity Net Gain.

Recycling plastics - The RECOUP way

RECOUP is a member-based plastics recycling organisation working across the plastic supply chain to promote good practice, provide information and aid the sustainable development of UK plastics recycling. 'Backin' Black – You CAN recycle plastic plant pots

Award-winning manufacturer Modiform provides a short update on their innovative alternatives to black plastic plant pots releasing in 2020, and why you should take notice if you want to save costs and care for the environment.

Jason Reeves MCIEEM
Head of Policy and Communications
Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management

Biodiversity Net Gain – Practical ways to protect the natural environment

CIEEM will introduce BALI members to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including the use of metrics and Defra’s planned ‘eco-metric’. Defra has consulted on making Biodiversity Net Gain a mandatory element of the English planning system, the Chancellor has announced that it will be mandatory, and the Environment Secretary has reinforced this commitment. BNG forms part of a larger commitment to being the first generation to leave the environment in a better state than it was before. This includes increasing health and well-being benefits from green spaces, reducing air pollution, improving soil condition, and creating natural flood prevention measures.
