Lindum Turf supply five RHS Chelsea show gardens

02 Aug 2019 | BALI Member News

BALI Registered Affiliate member Lindum Turf are always excited on the Monday and Tuesday of the show as the gardens and trade stands are revealed to the public. The judges make their comments and decisions on Monday (Press Day) and the awards are given to the exhibitors as well as the designers on Tuesday.

Once again Lindum Turf have had the pleasure of being involved with some amazing show gardens.

The Welcome to Yorkshire Garden designed and built by Mark Gregory and his team from Landform Consultants

Landform Consultants - Welcome to Yorkshire - Lindum Turf

2019 celebrated Mark Gregory’s 99th show garden. There was no doubt in our minds that Mark’s 2019 Welcome to Yorkshire garden would wow the world and that it definitely did… again! Creating a garden that was inspired by the county’s proud history of industry, manufacturing and innovation, as well as its stunning natural environment was something that had Mark’s name all over it!

The garden received a Gold medal and People’s Choice Award for the second year in a row!

Lindum’s Long Grasses and buttercups were used again this year to give that true rustic Yorkshire feel that can be seen throughout the landscapes. The grasses even made it to the lock gates along with other plants giving it such an authentic feel.

The Savills & David Harber Garden designed by Andrew Duff & built by Gardenlink

Savills and Harber - Andrew Duff

Lindum Turf first had contact from Andrew towards the end of 2018 and attended the press preview at Savills HQ in January. Lindum Long Grasses and buttercups were grown for this garden. Andrew’s main aim was for people to stand still and allow this garden to open up to them. The effect this garden had was unreal, you couldn’t help but stand there, take it in and feel relaxed. It really was a lovely get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the show. The tall trees, gentle grasses and planting gave beautiful reflections on the water. The judges decided on a Bronze medal.

Green Switch designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara and built by his design laboratory team

Green Switch designed by Kazuyuki Ishihara

Mr Ishihara always blows us away. His attention to detail is second to none. This Japanese garden represents the space that is inhabited when we switch off from the stresses of urban life and enjoy the freedom we experience when we spend time in nature.

Ishihara is a fan of Lindum Sedum Mat. This was used on the roof of the two storey structure and on the walls inside and outside the garden. Of course, it was another Gold medal for his efforts.

Family Monsters Garden designed by Alistair Bayford and built by the idverde team

The garden celebrated 150 years of Family Action that supports families across the country, and idverde’s 100 years of creating and maintaining landscapes for the benefit of local communities around the UK. Understandably this garden received a Gold Medal and Best Artisan Garden of 2019. WowGrass was used to give the garden its seamless finish.

The CAMFED Garden: Giving Girls in Africa Space to Grow designed by Jilayne Rickards and built by Conway Landscapes

Jilayne Rickards - CAMFED Chelsea

Jilayne first came to Lindum Turf with the idea of an African walkway. This isn’t something that the business have done before but they were sure with their product knowledge that they could create something spectacular. Roger Moore, Contracts Manager headed down to meet Jilayne and Cormac Conway to discuss the products that could be used to give the desired effect. They settled on long icon grasses which give off an African grass vibe. They nurtured them so that they were Chelsea ready! On-site the sand was brushed in and walked on to make the edges really rugged and used. Rightly so, the garden was awarded a gold medal and Space to Grow People’s Choice Award.
