Landscaping businesses urged to take action during Men’s Health Week
Men’s Health Week, running from 15 to 21 June, is a useful reminder for male-dominated sectors like landscaping to help tackle preventable health issues affecting men.
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), many industries with higher occupational health risks, such as construction, manufacturing, and skilled trades, are dominated by men.
Workers in these sectors, including landscapers, may face long-term physical health risks as well as work-related stress.
For example, men working in skilled trades experience higher rates of asbestos-related mesothelioma mortality and nearly all cases of engineered stone-linked silicosis occur in males.
The good news is that such risks can be managed, through the use of BALI’s risks assessment templates for example, and practical steps taken to reduce stress by drawing on resources under the HSE’s Working Minds campaign.
BALI also hosts further information on the most common health and safety issues affecting landscaping, from allergic reactions and hand arm vibration to lone working and mental health.
