Yorkshire Day treat for Johnsons of Whixley staff

06 Aug 2019 | BALI Member News

Leading Yorkshire commercial nursery and BALI Registered Affiliate member Johnsons of Whixley is celebrating Yorkshire Day in style by providing Yorkshire pudding wraps for its entire 110-strong workforce.

Based in the heart of North Yorkshire, between York and Harrogate, Johnsons has the county very much at its heart – in more ways than one. Experts at Leeds University have pinpointed the precise geographical centre of Yorkshire – co-ordinates SE 44791 55160 – to be at Johnsons’ Cattal site.

And the business has helped a number of Yorkshire causes through the donation of plants and resources. Recently, the company once again provided plants and lent the services of five employees to the York Cares initiative, to help a mental health charity create an attractive new headquarters.

Johnsons also teamed up with fellow Yorkshire champions Bettys and Taylors Group to donate plants worth £5,500 for a Big Build project to create sensory garden at a school in Harrogate for young people with special needs. The generous donation saw Johnsons receive a Variety Big Build Award at the Yorkshire Property Awards back in May.

Plants and trees grown by Johnsons are used in prestigious projects across the UK, from new housing developments and retail centres to holiday parks and road schemes.

Johnsons extends its famous Yorkshire generosity to the dedicated workforce, regularly hosts food days to show appreciation for the hard work that staff put in.

The wraps will be provided by Tadcaster-based catering company F4d Limited, with various fillings on offer – from turkey with all the trimmings to beef, pulled pork, chicken Balti or a vegetarian option.

Managing Director Graham Richardson said:

“We are thrilled that Johnsons of Whixley, which was founded by a Yorkshireman, is at the very epicentre of Yorkshire itself. In true Yorkshire style, we like to show our staff just how much their hard work is appreciated. And what better way to demonstrate this on Yorkshire Day than with a true Yorkshire treat for everyone?”
