During April over 10,000 plants will be given away free of charge to school gardens and community gardening projects across the UK through the national community and school garden campaign Cultivation Street.

Cultivation Street (now in its sixth year) was founded by Chartered Horticulturalist and broadcaster David Domoney and supports communities and schools across the UK. This year the campaign has a new sponsor - Calliope® Flowers.  Calliope® is a geranium unlike any other, with more flowers in vibrant and intense colours, super easy to care for and longer-lasting.  Calliope® has provided 10,000 plants to be donated to projects across the UK.

8000 of the plants will be made available to the 200 strong network of Cultivation Street Ambassador Garden Centres, for them to pass on to their local schools and communities. The plants will be divided into packs containing 12 plug plants of Calliope®  geraniums, a grow-your-own guide, planting calendar, and a packet of David Domoney’s brand of vegetable seeds too. A garden centre can request a pack for every school and community gardening project they work with. That’s nearly 670 projects across the country.

Another 2000 will be issued direct to communities & schools.

David Domoney said, “This is the biggest plant giveaway the industry has known. Just think of the pleasure it is going to give many new gardeners, committed community gardening volunteers, and thousands of children in schools across the country. This is good news for gardening.”

Jodie Sara Vale, Marketing Communications Manager for Calliope® Flowers said, “We are really excited to be the new sponsor for Cultivation Street with our ‘Colour Your Life’ Calliope® geraniums. We hope the plants we are donating goes a little way in supporting the super stars in the community who put in so much of their own time and effort to enriching the lives of others.”

Neil Fishlock, Account Manager for Calliope® Flowers said, “We hope that providing these plants to the Garden Centre ambassadors will encourage the gardening public to connect with them and build on a positive, ongoing relationship throughout their gardening projects.  Calliope® geraniums have been bred crossing two different types of geraniums to give gardeners the best of both, we hope they will be thrilled watching their mega geraniums grow!”
