About Harrowden Turf Ltd
Harrowden began as five separate turf businesses serving different parts of the country. Now we’re a national horticultural grower specialising in turf, wildflower turf, sedum and topsoil. We’re a one-stop shop for retail and professional contractors alike and a national distributor for all things horticultural . We are proud of our position in the UK market and work continually to bring innovation and new technology to the sector. We have adopted the latest turf harvesting technology from the United States bringing over the first Firefly Harvester ever seen in England. Beyond the technology we continue to innovate in the products we offer developing cutting-edge turf, wildflower turf and seed varieties to address the changing climate conditions, the move to greener alternatives and the constant pace of consumer demand. In the last two years we have developed a specialist shade-tolerant turf (Shadesman and Shadesman+), brought new varieties of Meadowmat Wildflower Turf to market and introduced new seed mixes and green roof kits to help both landscapers and home gardeners. We have developed our business every year – achieving a clean sweep of ISO accreditations across the business - ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 – in Transport, Customer Service, Accounting and Business Continuity.

Sedum Roof On An Iron Age Roundhouse
Over the last three weeks Harrowden has been working with Stanwick Lakes and the Rockingham Forest Trust to recreate an Iron Age Roundhouse complete with sedum roof.
Stanwick Lakes has received a range of funding, not least from The Heritage Lottery, to support a number of projects exploring the history of the site and the surrounding valley.
The roundhouses at Stanwick Lakes have been part of the site in various forms since 2018 and are situated by the edge of Celtic Lake, facing the site of the Iron Age settlement uncovered in the 1980’s.
The plan is to transform this area into a typical prehistoric farm settlement forming the focal point for “Living History” experiences for schools and visitors.
Nadia Norman, Heritage Coordinator at Stanwick Lakes said;
“This exciting project has really focused on the legacy of the settlement area and what visitors experience when they are here – whether that is learning about heritage and history through educational school visits or enjoying the space with family and friends. We have already had a number of school visits and the roundhouses are extremely popular, a great location to truly take learning out of the classroom. The whole project has been a great opportunity for us to add our own chapter to the story of Stanwick Lakes and understand how ancient settlers would have lived within the valley. We want to make sure that the settlement continues to be a focal point for heritage experiences for many years to come.”
As Harrowden and Turfonline we are helping to build a second larger, roundhouse. This will be designed with a ditch and a bund boundary, hurdle fencing and a small garden. The aim is to provide a glimpse into the past of Stanwick Lakes and to create a focus for community heritage activities.
Leicester Hospitals - Secret Garden
Harrowden Turf is supporting “The Secret Garden” – a fantastic initiative with Leicester’s Hospitals and its partners to create a garden oasis for hospital staff, visitors and partners.
Joining a host of volunteers the project is being developed to support a diverse range of needs.
