Landscape Institute launches new carbon tool
BALI has attended the launch of a new tool for reducing carbon emissions from landscaping projects, developed by the Landscape Institute (LI) and industry experts.
The tool is a free-to-use overlay for the RIBA Plan of Work – a stage-based model for the design and construction of buildings, produced the Royal Institute of British Architects.
It provides guidance and practical checklists to help cut emissions throughout the lifecycle of a project, covering all existing RIBA stages and adding a further ‘end of use’ stage to address recycling and reuse.
The new tool stems from a joint BALI-LI report, Landscape and Carbon, which set out important recommendations around using data and tools and supporting landscape practitioners.
This report also gave rise to elemental; a BALI-supported tool for assessing landscape designs against six aspects of sustainability, including materials, biodiversity, as well as carbon emissions.
