James Scott, MD of The Garden Company, appointed Head Judge for SGLD Awards
Commenting on his appointment, James said:
‘It’s a real honour - and an opportunity to give something back to an industry that’s given me so much over the years. Based on my experience of being on the SGLD Awards judging panel to date, I know that being immersed in the process offers a very valuable perspective on what truly works across a wide range of projects, budgets and lifestyles’.
While industry awards are often associated with recognition, James emphasised their wider role in shaping standards:
‘At their best, awards help raise standards and create a clearer, shared understanding of what good really looks like in garden and landscape design.’
He also highlighted the importance of this for clients commissioning garden projects:
‘Successful design isn’t defined by how a garden looks at the end of the build phase. It’s about how it works throughout the year, how it evolves over time, how sustainable it is - and how well it supports the way our clients want to spend time in it.’
As Head Judge, James will work alongside a panel of experienced industry professionals to oversee a rigorous and thoughtful judging process.
‘I’m looking forward to working with a highly committed judging panel to ensure the process reflects the standards our industry aspires to. And I know that the SGLD’s own Awards team will provide amazing support, as they always do!’.
