International Year of Plant Health: 2020

19 Sep 2019 | BALI Member News

A year of plant health will be celebrated throughout the world during 2020, in a bid to reflect on the benefits of healthy plants whilst promoting responsible practices that produce the spread of plant pests as well as scientific innovation to address pest threats.

The department for environment, food and rural affairs (Defra) will embrace the opportunity to raise awareness of plant health issues in the UK and is planning a range of events and activities during the year.

In the UK, national plant health week will take place from 20th to 27th April 2020.  It is hoped the week will provide a focus for activities aimed at the landscape industry, academics and the general public.

A webpage hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is already live to raise awareness of the initiative, whilst a website for the IYPH is due to be launched soon and will include an event calendar, resources and links.
