Informative talks at BALI's Midlands regional AGM

05 Feb 2020 | BALI Member News

The British Association of Landscape Industries hosted its fourth regional AGM of the year, on behalf of the BALI Midlands committee, at Landscape House on the Stoneleigh Park estate on Tuesday 4 January 2020.

With almost 30 attendees in the room, members were delighted with the variety of businesses represented, allowing for an excellent informal networking opportunity. BALI’s Chief Executive, Wayne Grills and BALI Vice Chairman Richard Kay of Green-tech, alongside members of the Midlands committee were also joined by Regional Support Officer Shinade Kaur.

The first guest speaker, Sam Hassall, Managing Director at BALI Registered Affiliate LandPro, gave an informative talk on overhead costs, costs of labour, and how rates can vary for each job, focussing mainly on how landscape contractors and gardeners are able to profit from completing fewer contracts. Attendees found Sam’s presentation extremely useful to help with their own costing solutions.

Regional Support Officer, Shinade Kaur, spoke about how useful members found LandPro’s presentation:

Attendees were very engaged in Sam’s presentation and many mentioned that they will be using his costing formulas in the future.

Following Sam's presentation, BALI Registered Affiliate Green-tech’s Product Specification Manager, Richard Wexham, provided guests with a step by step guide to installing an urban tree pit as well as providing a guide to best practice before planting takes place and the British Standards Soils Guidelines. Richard talked about a number of case studies where tree pits have been installed, including the ITV soap Coronation Street's set, Manchester City Centre and Vista Battersea – the company now has 25 production sites across the UK.

BALI's Chief Executive Wayne Grills also provided members with an overview of the various areas of membership they can get involved with, his involvement with lobbying at Government, BALI's activities from the previous year as well as looking ahead to the next membership year.

Members located in the region will receive a copy of the official minutes taken at the event next week. Missed out? BALI's regional committees will be hosting a range of exciting events alongside their AGMs. To book your space check out our events calendar here
