Hosepipe bans may last ‘well into the winter’

02 Oct 2025 | Technical News

BALI has previously reported on four hosepipe bans this year, introduced in all or part of the areas served by:

  • Yorkshire Water
  • South East Water
  • Thames Water
  • Southern Water

While rainfall in September is above average in almost all parts of England, according to the regulator, further significant rainfall is needed to return water resources to normal levels.

Coupled with the need to guard against a potential return to dry conditions, the EA says these conditions mean the hosepipe bans may still be active in early 2026.

BALI will continue to monitor developments and communicate any further updates on hosepipe bans to members and, in turn, their clients.

Meanwhile, our policy team is renewing efforts to secure greater flexibility for landscaping under hosepipe bans as well as a more consistent approach across water companies.

We have previously discussed the benefits of sustainable garden design, rainwater harvesting systems, and water solutions more broadly.
