Help shape new British Standard on paving
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has shared a draft version of its latest standard on paving for public comment – have your say now.
The new standard will act as a guide for the design and installation of permeable pavements and could be used to deliver a sustainable drainage system (SuDS) component.
It currently has sections on the selection of pavement components and maintenance and reinstatement as well as design and installation.
How to comment
To comment on the standard, please visit the BSI website here, click on the ‘read draft and comment’ button at the bottom of the page, and then login or register.
Alternatively, please tell BALI what you would like the standard to achieve by emailing technical@bali.org.uk and we will build this into our feedback.
Other paving standards
This new standard on the design and installation of permeable pavements (BS 7533-103) builds on two others published in recent years:
- BS 7533-101:2021 – Code of practice for the structural design of pavements using modular paving units
- BS 7533-102:2025 – Code of practice for the installation of pavements using modular paving units
All three standards are part of a series called pavements constructed with clay, concrete or natural stone paving units, which replaces a 12-part series published between 2001 and 2010.
