Free resources to help reduce driver distraction

19 Feb 2026 | Technical News

Most road incidents are caused by driver behaviour, with distraction – often though a handheld or hand-free mobile phone – being a major issue, according to the DfBB.

In 2024, 22 people were killed and 512 injured on the roads in Britain where the driver was assigned the contributory factor of using a mobile phone.

To help reduce these numbers, you can download the free resources directly from the DfBB website, including:

  • An article to share with your drivers on distracted driving
  • Short safety messages on distraction to send to your drivers on their devices
  • A poster for your staff noticeboards
  • Information sheets from our Van Driver and Car Driver Toolkits

First and foremost, reducing distractions for drivers is important for the safety of themselves and others, but employers must also think about compliance with the law.

Helpfully, the DfBB has also worked with Woodfines Solicitors to produce a legal briefing on driver distraction, covering issues like mobile phone, social media, and vaping.
