Do you sell plants online or via mail order?

11 Sep 2025 | Technical News

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) is creating a list of businesses authorised to sell plants by distance contract and you could join it today.

Joining the list is voluntary but officials hope the information will help reduce the sale of illegal goods and spread of pests and diseases.

In 2024, the APHA reviewed the top 100 online plant sellers through a simple Google search and found more than 20% were not authorised to issue UK plant passports.

It is hoped that the list will help customers to find an authorised plant seller which is reputable and meets biosecurity standards under the plant passporting regime.

You must be authorised to issue plant passports before joining the list and have your APHA customer reference number to hand when completing the form.

If approved, officials will add your business trade name, the city in which the business located, and your APHA customer reference number to the public list.
