Debbie Carroll Wins Award with Hallmark Luxury Care Homes

29 Jan 2026 | BALI News

Debbie Carroll, through her care focused company Step Change Design, is delighted to announce that, together with Hallmark Luxury Care Homes, they have received the prestigious NAPA (National Activity Providers Association) Award for ‘Research and Evaluation’. This award recognises their innovative work in creating person-centred engagement within care home gardens, using the ‘Why don’t we go into the garden?’ books and tools as key elements in Hallmark’s annual garden competition.

The  partnership with Hallmark focused on integrating these resources to help foster meaningful connections with gardens and nature, enriching the lives of care home residents, and ensuring that the gardens across this whole care group are actively used. The resources highlighted where homes provided the most person-centred care and identified opportunities for further improvement at individual, team, and organisational levels.

Winning this award reflects their shared commitment to spreading their research findings in practical and creative ways that make a real impact on care practices and residents’ well-being and in ensuring gardens are valued as part of the homes resources. This recognition from NAPA is especially significant, as it was their support in 2013 that helped Debbie’s research grow from an intended small scale study to an extensive project involving 24 care homes across England and Wales.
