A Visit to Natural History Museum Gardens with BALI

29 May 2025 | BALI Member News

Accredited Suppliers, Sones Accountancy Services take a look around the Natural History Museum Gardens with fellow BALI members.

On 20 May 2025, the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) North Thames region hosted a special event at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London. This gathering provided the exclusive opportunity to explore the museum's newly redeveloped gardens, focussing on the Evolution Garden and the Nature Discovery Garden.

As a member of BALI, Sones had the pleasure of exploring these truly fascinating gardens that really take you on a journey through 2.7 billion years of Earth's history. From the moment you exit South Kensington Tube Station and walk up the ramp flanked by ancient stone walls, formed millions of years ago, you begin an immersive experience rooted in the story of evolution.

The Evolution Garden is laid out as a continuous geological timeline, where each metre of the path represents five million years. With carefully selected stones sourced from across the UK, along with period-specific plant life and representations of creatures that once roamed the Earth, the garden brings to life everything from the prehistoric past, through the present day, and into a vision of the garden of the future.

In the Nature Discovery Garden, the themes of biodiversity and urban living make it extremely impressive, featuring a large wildlife pond and a peaceful woodland walk. It’s a thoughtful, tranquil and inspiring space.

We would highly recommend visiting the gardens if you haven’t been. They really are something special!
