ATM win at Biodiversity Challenge Awards 2019

BALI Registered Contractor member Ainsty Timber Marketing Ltd T/A ATM is excited to announce that it has won the Pollinator award at this year’s BIG Biodiversity Challenge Awards 2019 in London, alongside Highways England and Kier.

The award is in recognition of the A38 Devon – Ivybridge to Ashburton project ‘Turning A Roads into Bee Routes’ project, which aims to increase habitat connectivity by linking species rich grasslands, sustain and increase pollinator populations and other invertebrates whilst increasing the resilience of terrestrial wildlife for the long-term.

Leonardo Gubert, Senior Ecologist, Highways England said:

"This project is a culmination of years of experience of the project team together with careful planning and the use of detailed modelling techniques. It aimed to bring biodiversity benefits at a local and landscape scale whilst contributing to Highways England’s Biodiversity Plan vision to maximise the ecological value of existing grassland habitats by expanding the area of existing species rich grassland as well as help achieve objectives set out by the National Pollinator Strategy.

The project was also aimed to increase habitat connectivity by linking species rich grasslands, sustain and increase pollinator populations and other invertebrates and increase resilience of our terrestrial wildlife for the long term.

ATM were very helpful and with their input we were able to deliver a successful scheme for the benefit of local biodiversity as well as road users".

The A38 is one of the busiest roads in the south west and consequently all the works had to be completed at night and many of the works areas were on steep embankments, initially covered in dense brambles.

The project was delivered safely and on programme and is a credit to everyone who was involved with it."
