FAQ's for those holding LISS/CSCS Card via Industry Accreditation

06 Dec 2018 | BALI Member News

Whilst Industry Accreditation (IA) is no longer available to new applicants.  There are card holders who obtained their cards via Industry Accreditation. This FAQ page provides information for those who are current holders of LISS/CSCS cards obtained under IA.

What was Industry Accreditation?

Card holders without an NVQ were able to obtain their initial card by only doing the ROLO Health, Safety & Environment Awareness course and the CITB Touch Screen Test appropriate to their level of card. Note: IA was only ever initially available for the Blue, Gold & Black Cards.

Why was Industry Accreditation Available?

It was in recognition of the experience that workers may have had.  It was only open for a very limited period of time, two years at the start of the Scheme.  After the two years IA was closed and to get the card you would also need to achieve a qualification for your occupation.  Note: IA was available for all occupations across the Construction and Land-based Sectors.

Why are Industry Accreditation Cards being removed?

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has specified that all cards bearing the CSCS logo should be based on the achievement of a recognised industry qualification – more information can be found here

Whilst IA may acknowledge extremely experienced people.  IA doesn’t define those who are competent and those that are not competent.

Will I be able to renew my IA card after 2020?

Renewal of cards obtained under IA will be allowed to renew after the end 2020 for one more time only, there will be further information to follow about the process of how to get your skills recognised.

What do I do with my existing Industry Accreditation Card?

Don’t let your card lapse (check expiry date) renew within the six months prior to the expiry date. Renew by completing the ROLO Health, Safety & Environment Awareness course and the CITB Touch Screen Test appropriate to your level of card. Please visit the BALI website here for further details.

What if I let my Industry Accreditation Card expire?

You can renew your card up to 6 months after the expiry date. If you don’t renew within the renewal period and let your card lapse over 6 months you will be unable to renew it and you will be expected to apply for a card using the appropriate qualification, in addition to the ROLO Health, Safety & Environment Awareness course and CITB Touch Screen Test. Please visit the BALI website here for further details.

What will replace Industry Accreditation?

That is still being decided. It is hoped that it will be either some form of professional discussion or test or interview.  It is acknowledged that the route must include a process to recognise the experience of the applicant. Note: Whatever is decided it will be for ALL occupations within the Construction and Land-based sectors whether a Landscaper, Bricklayer, Fencer etc.
