Recognising a latent demand in the landscaping and construction sectors for good quality subsoil, UK topsoil and topdressing supplier and BALI Registered Affiliate British Sugar TOPSOIL has launched two new products, which will complement the company’s Landscape20 topsoil and HortLoam planting soil.
General Purpose SubSoil is BS8601:2013 (Table 1 Multipurpose subsoil) compliant and is ideal for use with Landscape20 topsoil and HortLoam planting soil. When used in conjunction with these two topsoils its single grain, stone-free structure of largely medium sand (0.25-0.50mm) and its low organic matter content make it ideal as a subsoil for general landscaping purposes, such as planting trees and shrubs, and the turfing or seeding of amenity grass.
Free-Draining SubSoil has a slightly higher total sand content (95%) than General Purpose SubSoil, comprising predominantly medium sand (0.25-0.50mm) and coarse sand (0.50-1.00mm). It is ideal for more demanding schemes where a free-draining subsoil is essential, such as tree pits, lawns and sports pitches. Whilst the higher sand content of this particular product does not meet the British Standard, Free-Draining SubSoil complies with the Standard in all other respects and the specific non-compliance is deemed by soil scientists Tim O’Hare Associates, who tested and analysed both products, to be “minor and insignificant”
National TOPSOIL Manager Andy Spetch believes these two new products are an important addition to TOPSOIL’s range:
“Introducing a range of subsoils that complement our existing high quality topsoils enables us to supply our customers with the full package of subsoil and topsoil to help them deliver top quality results. As you would expect from TOPSOIL, both subsoils are fully analysed to ensure they are free of contaminants that could be harmful to plant growth; they are available in bulk, or, subject to a minimum order size, in bulk bags.”
British Sugar TOPSOIL supplies sustainable, safe and BS3882:2015-compliant products to the landscaping, amenity and construction sectors for schemes in East Anglia, the East Midlands, London and the South East. All products are available for loose and bulk bag delivery, with £1 for every bulk bag sold donated to Perennial, the charity for all horticulturists.
