The Edwards Trust Garden
The Birmingham based charity Edwards Trust commissioned me to design a very special garden at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Edwards Trust provides a counselling and support service for children and adults struggling to cope with childhood illness and loss. The garden is part of the 150 acre site in Staffordshire dedicated to remembrance and is a fitting tribute to the charities work. The garden is formed of a central "Tree of Hope" that has leaves each engraved with a child's name as a permanent act of remembrance for parents who have experienced this loss. We now have around 150 leaves hanging on the tree. The curved seating and oak trellis enclose the tree sculpture and allow time for quiet contemplation, with lovely views out to the river. This garden has become a special place of peace for many who visit it. Thanks to all the wonderfully skilled, artistic and dedicated people who helped make this project happen. We also won 2 BALI awards for design innovation! www.edwardstrust.org.uk
