Frequently Asked Questions
1.Where can I find the scheme document?
The Scheme document can be located on the UKAS website www.ukas.com
2.How Much will it cost?
You will be required to pay a fee for the audit by your chosen certification body, and any training you require for your employees. Additionally any fees if you should chose to use a consulant to assist you.
Skills cards are as follows:
Initial Card: £40 per applicant
Updated Card: £30 per applicant
Replacement Card: £15 per applicant
Renewal Card: £40 per applicant
3.Can I get assistance to help me through the accreditation?
There are numerous consultant companies who are able to provide assistance with accreditation. The majority of these are consultants who assist with BS EN ISO9001:2008 accreditation.

4.What training is required?
Training requirements are explained in appendix C of the Sector Scheme Document. The level of training varies depending on the responsibility level of the employee.
5.I already have existing highways contracts, do I still require Accreditation?
Sector Scheme 18 accreditation is only required for contracts issues after the 1st May 2009, or renewal of contracts issued prior to this date. Although it is not a requirement for ongoing contracts, it is recommend that you should still undergo accreditation.
6.How long does accreditation take?
This depends on how much of the scheme you already comply with and what training you employees currently have.
