One of BALI Registered Affiliate member Addagrip's approved contractors were proud to install the surfacing around the recently unveiled RAF 47 Squadron Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
Situated in Alrewas, on the edge of the National Forest, the Arboretum is home to over 330 memorials.
The new memorial, a representation of all of the past, present and future members of No. 47 Squadron, features a sculpture of four pilots by Peter W Naylor and is sited next to the River Thame. The design required a Resin Bound paved surround in a wave pattern using two contrasting colours that would be aesthetically pleasing but not detract from the sculpture.
Terrabound Resin Bound porous surfacing in Autumn Toffee and Terracotta blends was selected, segregating each coloured area within the pattern design with an aluminium edging strip. The BBA approved Terrabound surface is porous, low maintenance, hard wearing, smooth underfoot and wheelchair friendly, making it accessible all year round.
The new memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum was unveiled on the 1st March 2017. The ceremony began with a service and a one minute silence, followed by the flypast of three Hercules aircraft, crewed by members of 47 Squadron, based at RAF Brize Norton.
