Capel Manor College students win Landscape Gardening Competition at IOG SALTEX.

Johannes Pasch and Jack Carnell, students from Capel Manor College Gunnersby won the Intermediate Final of the WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Intermediate Competition at IOG SALTEX last week.
The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), the competition organisers, would like to thank all competitors who took part; CAFRE who travelled all the way from Northern Ireland, Oatridge College from Edinburgh and Otley College from Ipswich. Congratulations to Johannes and Jack on their hard work which led them to receive 1st place.
Battling it out over 4 days, the 4 teams had 22 hours to build their 7x7m gardens designed by Andy Sturgeon. The judges; Mark Gregory from Landform Consultants, Charlie Maclauchlan from Country Gardens and Keith Chapman (an ex competitor from the International WorldSkills Team UK 2007 competition) advised that the students from Capel Manor College Gunnersby picked up those vital winning points for their precision of measurement and work processes.
Lantra Awards who kindly sponsor the awards for the 2009 WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Competition, look forward to taking Capel Manor Gunnersby College students, Johannes and Jack to the BALI National Landscape Awards to celebrate their success amongst the Industries finest on the 4th December.
Whilst the competitors were in their final stages of completion on Thursday the 10th September the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) held their Annual AGM at IOG SALTEX. Overlooking the show in the Paddock Pavilion, BALI Members enjoyed a glorious setting to match the glorious sunshine enjoyed by all throughout the show.
The member’s feedback was positive in regards to BALI and they were happy with the direction being taken by the association. A variety of topics were discussed and feedback was welcomed. The BALI National Landscape Awards are seen as a huge success by the membership and a large contributor to raising not only the profile of the individual members but also the association as a whole.
