Green Roof training grows to new heights

After successfully delivering their ‘Introduction to Green Roofs’ course to hundreds of satisfied delegates, Groundwork Sheffield is expanding its green roof training repertoire. The new training programme sees leading experts in the field delivering more advanced courses in specialist areas.
“We have always received positive feedback on our green roof introductory course,” said Anna Cooper, Green Roof Development Officer, Groundwork Sheffield, “more recently delegates have been asking us to signpost them to more advanced training in specialised areas, such as whole life costing and green roof planting regimes. We realised there was nothing comparable out there, so have developed this training programme to meet that need.”
Reigning green roof champion Dusty Gedge from Livingroofs.org delivers an in-depth workshop focusing on biodiversity, and how planning requirements can be met through the incorporation of ecological design principles.
“I am really pleased to be delivering in partnership with Groundwork Sheffield” says Gedge. “The growing pressures for new developments to reduce runoff and increase biodiversity make green roofs the number one solution to so many of our urban challenges today. In contrast to the economic downturn, the green roof industry is experiencing continued growth and this new programme will equip people with the skills they need to deliver successful green roof projects.”
Blackdown Horticulture’s Alun Tarr leads a one-day course on successful green roof planting, showing how to manipulate the use of different substrates and vegetation to meet different agendas. The Green Roof Centre’s introductory course has joined forces with local landscapers Green Estate, to provide a practical twist to this ever popular course.
All courses are available to BALI members at the heavily discounted rate of £150 per person. For more information on the new green roof programme, contact Anna Cooper on 0114 263 6420 or visit www.greenboxgroup.org.uk. Proof of current BALI membership will be required.
