North West Regional Event Roundup: The Need to Know Guide to Estimating and Quoting

The North West Region were invited to attend an in depth seminar on the subject of Estimating & Quoting for landscaping projects, proving hugely beneficial to contractors and designers.

This was held on Thursday, 28th October 2010 at the Rural Business Centre, Myerscough college, Preston.

Our guest speakers for the evening were Martin Coles, Cost Engineering Manager, and Rob MacDonald, Director, of new BALI Affiliate members Benchmark Estimating Ltd.

Since 2007 Benchmark Estimating has been producing estimates and software for the UK market including major infrastructure, civil and landscaping industries.

Martin and Rob explained the fundamentals of estimating and quoting and how they can be implemented simply to help your landscaping business grow. Providing our attendees with a step by step guide of not only how to win more work, but winning the right work at the right price.

Topics covered included:

• Understanding your client’s needs
• Challenges when estimating for the landscaping industry
• Ensuring accurate quantities and rate information
• Tailoring estimates to site and market conditions
• Communicating the basis of your estimates and submitting your estimate/quote
• Integrating estimating with other business operations such as construction billing and marketing

The seminar was excellent value for money, extremely educational and informative and exceeded many of our attendee’s expectations. There were many opportunities within the presentation for guest interaction and all guests engaged in sharing ideas and discussions.

Attendees gave excellent feedback in relation to the content and quality of the presentation and agreed that this was an extremely educational and relevant presentation.
