West London Streets planted by Civic Trees (Glendale Countryside).
Since January 2010 Civic Trees have been continually engaged working for two boroughs in West London. In the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham a dozen large semi-mature trees were planted around Brook Green, on Hammersmith Bridge Road and outside the recently redeveloped Shepherds Bush Green Station.
Civic Trees are also storing and maintaining a number of specimen trees on behalf of the borough at the London Tree Centre ready for planting in 2010/2011 planting season. These contracts represent a significant double ‘hit’ for the company as Glendale Countryside are holders of the borough’s Tree Maintenance contract.
As part of the London Borough of Brent’s tree strategy over 170 trees were planted through 11 residential streets in south Kilburn as part of a highway improvement scheme, part funded by Transport for London. The trees were purchased from a Civic Trees supplier and the excavation of new tree pits & the tree planting was undertaken by Civic Trees. Trees included mixed varieties of Sorbus, Betula, Prunus and Pyrus.
In central Willesden, Civic Trees planted 12 trees in newly created traffic islands at a busy junction where the tree pits contained an innovative new structural soil mix of stone, compost and topsoil.
London Borough of Brent Tree Officer Lawrence Usherwood commented ‘I am delighted in the way Civic Trees & Brent Council have worked together over the past few months. To achieve such a successful planting scheme in crowded Victorian streets is a true achievement in often challenging circumstances ’.
To increase the survival rate of such a high number of urban trees a comprehensive aftercare package has been put in place by Civic Trees in partnership with Brent Council. Regular watering & inspections have taken place over the summer to ensure any potential problems are identified & rectified.#
