Swings, Roundabouts....and Stunning Planting
Coles Nurseries have supplied the green pockets and statement planting around the Playfair exhibition at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire since the Show began three years ago. This year, with input at the earliest design stages, Coles again worked with the play contractor for the central display area, Playground Services, to complement and emphasize the key elements of the design. The results were planted and ready for the glorious sunshine over the event on 22-23 June 2010, with tree-lined mounds, herbaceous colour nestled away in clusters of boulders and vibrant foliage contrasting the sand, bark and play surfaces. The show was provided its natural elements by Coles own stock of container trees (to 5m), shrubs, grasses, bamboos and perennials, grown extensively at their central Leicestershire location over 195 hectares of land.
Coles Nurseries have been working closely with play specialists to produce a plant palette ideal for the rigours of play areas, whilst also including sensory elements, colour, texture and foliage. This has also enabled the establishment of a number of partnerships with Exhibitors at the Show, including Park Leisure and Wicksteed Playscapes. Meghan Frith from Park Leisure designed and managed their innovative displays of equipment and commented: “Coles Nurseries have helped bring our stand designs to life! It is always a pleasure when it comes to adding planting to our schemes as Coles offer advice and expertise to our ideas, helping us to deliver an inviting show stand to be proud of!”
The plants used at the Show have been donated to local planting schemes via Smiths Nurseries, Baginton and to the Estates team at the University of Warwick.
