WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Competition Results

Competitors working on site

10 students from colleges from Scotland and Northern Ireland battled it out in very hot conditions over 2 days at Gardening Scotland 2010. Temperatures reached as high as 26c on Saturday 5th June making working conditions very tough for all involved.

The WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Competition, sponsored by Marshalls, run by The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) in Association with UKSkills has proven challenging for all 36 competitors who have taken part throughout the UK. Students all had to solely build a 2x3m garden designed by BALI Award Winning Designer Patricia Fox of Aralia Garden Design and Build, from scratch within 6 hours.

The top 5 students (in order) from Heat 2 at Gardening Scotland:

  • Ryan Love, Oatridge College
  • Robert Stewart, Individual, Oatridge College
  • Neil Bradley, College of Agriculture and Rural Enterprise
  • Kristopher Orr, College of Agriculture and Rural Enterprise
  • Kerrera Macindeor, Individual, Oatridge College

Angela Radley, Project manager of the competition from BALI commented “What a tight competition up here in Scotland!  All 10 competitors found working in the hot conditions very challenging.  They did very well to produce competitive scores.  Well done to Ryan Love and Robert Stewart both from Oatridge College who have secured a place in the National Final.  Congratulations also to Kerrera Macindeor from Oatridge College who is the top placed female in the competition at only 17 years old”
