The stainless steel footbridge forms part of the south west coastal path which extends along the coastline from Poole Harbour to Clevedon in North Somerset. This light, elegant structure was designed to replace the rather unsightly concrete bridge that had been in situ since the 1970s, with the material specification required to reflect the aesthetics of the local Jurassic coastline.
The paving design was developed by Chris Tipping, his intricate scheme drawing inspiration from the local land and seascapes as well as a number of familiar cartographic symbols and annotations. Given the complexity of the design and the relatively exposed location of the bridge, a versatile, durable and robust paving surface was required: SureSet resin bound paving providing the ideal solution.
Working closely with SureSet, Chris selected a combination of Sterling Silver, Charcoal, Winter Frost and Harvest Buff aggregates drawn from the company’s extensive crushed rock and natural gravel ranges. Not only does the footbridge provide immediate benefits, but it will also provide a great platform for spectators to view the sailing events which will be taking place in the bay as part of the 2012 Olympic Games.
