Voting rights – Yes
Use of BALI Registered logo – Yes
BALI is committed to maintaining and improving standards in the landscape sector and sets high standards for its contractor and designer membership, working to ensure that those standards are maintained over time. New contractor and designer applicants are subjected to rigorous vetting procedures before full membership is awarded. They are then required to undergo a stringent Quality Standards Review at least every five years.
To qualify for full BALI membership a contractor/designer must:
- Be established for more than two years;
- Be a business, section-part, or division of a business that carries out landscape construction/maintenance/supply/design;
- Have carried out landscaping contracts during the past two years, which can be inspected; (designers must provide three completed design schemes with portfolios for assessment by a panel of adjudicators).
- Pass the association’s vetting procedure;
- Agree to abide by the association’s Code of Conduct.
Continued membership of the association is dependent upon:
- The maintenance of a satisfactory standard of workmanship and professional conduct, which may be subject to inspection at any time and will be subject to the association’s Quality Standards Review;
- Agreement to abide by the association’s Code of Conduct;
- The regular payment of the annual membership fee.

This category is for companies with branches across the UK or companies run on a franchise basis. BALI Group Members receive similar benefits as Full Contracting Members (including the use of the BALI logo) but at a reduced cost. Group Member branches or franchisees are not individually vetted but are covered by the full vetting carried out on the organisation’s Head Office operation. This greatly reduces the initial application fee but the Head Office remains responsible for the professional standards and performance of their entire company. All Full Contracting Members, including branches and franchisees, are subject to inspection at any time if satisfactory standards are not maintained.

Companies that are resident or operating solely outside of the United Kingdom with strong links to the landscape industry in this country can apply for Overseas Membership. Those applying for this category of membership must comply with BALI’s Affiliate vetting process before they can be accepted into the association and use the BALI logo. They have full access to all BALI member benefits and are widely encouraged to promote the use of their products and services to BALI contractor and designer members through the association’s many regional and national workshops and exhibitions and through use of BALI publications such as Landscape News, and the BALI website.
Associate (Contracting, Designer and Individual)

As an inclusive membership organisation BALI offers anyone with an interest in or involvement with the industry the opportunity to benefit from the association’s support, including industry news, technical information, workshops, networking events etc., through its Associate Membership. As this level of membership does not involve the stringent level of vetting of practical expertise required by Full Members, Associate Members are not permitted to display the BALI logo nor imply they are vetted members of the association. However, it is hoped that many associate Contractors and Designers will, in time, feel ready to apply for Full Membership.
This level of BALI membership is designed for the following:
- Companies who have been working as a landscape contractor or designer for less than two years and are not yet eligible to apply for full Member status.
- Individuals, including those who may work for a BALI contractor or affiliate (supplier), who want to benefit from personal access to BALI’s regular communications, workshops and regional events, and the invaluable support of professional colleagues in the industry.
- Associate Membership is also open to industry related trade and professional bodies, local authority officers, facilities managers etc., who want to keep abreast of industry developments and take advantage of appropriate CPD opportunities.
