This one day course is a pre requisite for anyone within the land based industries who require a CSCS card to work on sites.

    ROLO Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness Course

    The ROLO scheme (Registration of Land Based Operatives) is available to anyone who works in the land-based industries or sectors, this involves those who are self-employed, employees of companies or labour only.

    A ‘duty of care’ has been put in place that all trade bodies must ensure that people are trained in Health and Safety and that employers show that their employees have been properly trained.

    On completing the ROLO health and safety awareness course an ID card can be issued and is valid for five years. You can also put other relevant training courses on the ID card such as pesticides, chainsaw, ride on mowers.

    At the end of the day a multiple choice exam is taken where you need to achieve 75% to achieve ROLO accreditation.

    Learning Outcomes
    By the end of the course you should be able to:
    1) Have a clearer understanding of health and safety issues:

    • Health and Safety legislation
    • Risk assessment
    • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Construction Design Management
    • Safety on sites
    • Health risks
    • First Aid, Accidents, Fire
    • Environmental Awareness and Issues
    • Waste Management

    2) Have a raised awareness of your health and safety roles and responsibilities as they apply to you and your colleagues
    3) Assist you in achieving ROLO registration so that you stay safe at work.

    The aims of the ROLO scheme are to:

    • Provide a means of identification
    • Keep a record of workers in the landbased industry who have achieved a recognized level of competence
    • Raise the standards of Health and Safety to reduce the risks and accidents throughout the industry
    • Encourage employers to use only ROLO card holders who have accredited Health and Safety Training.
    The ROLO scheme aims to provide the following benefits to employers:
    • Identification of operatives with recognised skills, competence and qualifications.
    • Raising of quality workmanship.
    • Improved Health and Safety awareness of the workforce.
    • Identification of training needs to improve or add to existing skills.
    • Move towards an increasingly qualified workforce, thus improving customer satisfaction and the industry’s image.
    • ROLO health and safety is the only industry accredited route to CSCS.
    • ROLO health and safety is recognised as a route for health and safety training in the National Highway Sector Scheme 18 accreditation.
    The ROLO scheme is an individual registration card, and provides the card holder with the following benefits:
    • Recognition of skills, competence and qualifications.
    • Improved health and safety awareness.
    • Improved employment prospects.
    • Identification of training needs to improve or add to existing skills.
    • Improved employment prospects as your prospective employer will be able to see your qualifications on one card.
    • It may reduce insurance premiums for the self-employed.

    Successful candidates will receive a certificate from BALI and be eligible for entry to the Register of Landscape Operatives.
